Jazz trumpeter and Blessing artist, Thomas Marriott’s newest album on Origin Records “East-West Trumpet Summit,” has topped the national radio airplay chart at number one this week. The new album, which features fellow trumpeter Ray Vega of New York, has been steadily climbing the JazzWeek radio airplay chart since it’s release in May of this year. JazzWeek is the definitive chart for tracking jazz radio airplay in the United States. Marriott’s number one album is his first, as well as a first for Origin Records.
Marriott is no stranger to successful radio airplay. His 2007 release “Both Sides Of The Fence” reached as high as number 9 on the JazzWeek chart, and last year’s release “Flexicon” made it to the number 10 position. Marriott also produced saxophonist Hadley Caliman’s current release “Straight Ahead” which went as high as number 2 earlier this year and is number 3 for the entire year. The top ten albums reported this week include releases by Keith Jarrett, Dave Holland & Charlie Haden among many others.
Marriott, a Seattle native, performs every Friday at the New Orleans Creole Restaurant. Since returning to Seattle in 2004, Marriott has been a catalyst on the Seattle Jazz Scene and has toured, recorded and performed with some of the biggest names in jazz at festivals and nightclubs around the world.
